Innovation by tradition: Expertise in paper since 1845
1845
That was the year the first German paper mill making filter media was founded. It’s name? Well, even then it was Gessner!
1955
Was when Hermann Steinbeis and Walter Gessner were hot on the trail of the paper pioneer, Walter Gessner, and started specialising in technical special papers under the name Gessner & Co. GmbH, manufacturing in Bruckmuehl. Twelve years later, the Feldkirchen-Westerham plant started production.
1982
The ‘New Age’ began with a change in the product portfolio from graphic papers to crepe papers; a change which necessitated a re-build of the paper machine at Bruckmuehl. Also, the first 60m-long impregnation machine for making crepe paper backings came into production.
1990
saw a change of company name to Steinbeis Gessner GmbH. Two years later, the first meltblown machine for producing synthetic fine-fibres came on-line.
1998
Change of ownership: Steinbeis Gessner GmbH became FiberMark Gessner GmbH, a subsidiary of FiberMark, Inc. (USA) and, since 2006, we belong to the successful worldwide Neenah Inc. paper group with its head office located in Alpharetta, USA.
